Now see? THIS is why you should pay attention and not get sucked into movies when you knit. Notice anything, say, impractical about the scarf in this photo? The existence of a CORNER, perhaps? Can you believe I was completely finished with the triangle and changing colors before I even noticed I’d wandered off a straight line? Really, it doesn’t say much for my professional author skills of observation that I failed to notice I had turned ninety degrees, does it?
Sigh. Nothing makes a knitter sadder than ripping out rows and delaying the end of a project. I’m glad the Super Bowl is in 2112, not 2011. It might take me that long to finish....

Time to do some tinking. Apparently that's what kitters calling it when hey have to rip out stitches. This is what I learned at my craft group tonight instead of crocheting...
As far as I can tell, this was "frogging." "Tinking" is when you take out the stitches by un-knitting them one at a time--TINK is KNIT backwards. Frogging is when you have to pull the whole blasted thing out because you have to "rippit" aka "ribbit"--get it. It's one of knitting poorer jokes, but it's one of knitting's sadder tasks so it fits.
I have done the same thing on an entrelac scarf. It's just complicated enough that you have to pay attention and simple enough that you don't want to.

Frogging is also used in crochet, though I don't think there's a crochet version of tinking. Not a fun task at all, all those stitches needing to be redone.
