Knit Along: Mega Cabled Scarf from Stitch DC - Done!

Time to ‘fess up

You know, I had my doubts about this one. It’s definitely cute, but I was anxious it would be cute in a five-year-old-going-to-preschool way, not a 46-year-old-going-to-lunch-with-friends kind of way. At six feet tall and pushing fifty, “cute” doesn’t really work for me. I was pondering all the pre-teens in my life as I finished up the pom-poms, thinking I might have to give this one away.

Belay that order.

Granted, I am the first to admit my pom-poms look rather mangey, like something you want to take to the vet more than something you want to wrap around your neck. I am hoping that they’ll even out and fluff up with time. I felt ridiculous giving them trims over the wastebasket, trying to even up their fluffiness, but it did help a bit. I suspect I am more or a tassel kind of girl, but I’m not clever enough to go around mucking up Marie’s pattern.

Then this morning, after spending yesterday flat-out sick in bed (with a bug graciously passed on by sick child mentioned on Day 2) and knowing I’d left you all hanging in suspense earlier this week, I put the scarf on.

It’s adorable. In a clever, cheerful way, not a fuzzy-baby-duck kind of way. I love it. I plan to wear it when the germ warfare lets me out of the house tomorrow. Its brilliant color just may compensate for the pallor of my own cheeks. In fact, I believe its debut will be to go fetch a mocha latte. That’s good for whatever ails you in my book.

That is if my teenage daughter, who has already absconded with it twice today, doesn’t swipe it out from underneath me. It looks even better on her, so I may be gracious enough to share. Thanks, Marie, for a charming and cheerful project!

This wraps up (pun intended) our segment on Washington DC. Next up is Denver, CO, where I met some amazing people, some great stores, some cool dogs, and we’ll have our first celebrity interview with New York Times bestselling author and knitter Debbie Macomber!

Is the color as bright as it shows in the photos? Like hurt-your-eyes bright, or just a pretty teal? I love the pretty cables. I should learn to knit someday. ROFL.

Yes, it's bright, so I suppose it's either cheerful or blinding depending on your taste :) But on the right day, it's hits the spot as a pick-me-up!
